Having just arrived in the Red Light District of New York, I've already heard whispers of a party, a celebration of the Winter Solstice. This sounds most intriguing. I ask around and learn that it is a formal gathering, being hosted by the reigning vampires in the area.

Once I secure a room, there only seem to be rooms available above bars in this place, but, that's what I get for choosing the Red Light district, I change into my more formal attire; black pants, a light blue blouse and a jacket and tie and I pocket the invitation I received.

Hopefully, it'll be one Hell of a night.

London, 1580:

Nickolas saw the woman and knew she would be trouble, his senses were practically screaming at him the warning. But, he barely listened to them anymore. He was an established person and always did what he felt like.

Even if that happened to be going after strange women he had never met before.

Grinning, the 34-year-old walked over to the woman, a drink in his hand for her....

And that was all he could recall...hours later, when he awoke in the gutter, hair matted to his head by the drizzling rain. His head was pounding and he felt like death. Indeed, although he wasn't aware of it, he was dying. The woman in the bar was a vampire and his senses were right to warn him of danger.

A pity he had stopped listening to them, else he might not be slowly dying.

As Nickolas writhed on the ground, waves of pain wracking his body, the woman came back into the alley, dragging an unconscious prostitute with her. She knew Nickolas would be hungry when he awoke as a new vampire and wouldn't be able to find food for himself. She grinned as he let out a cry of agony. The more a human fought the change, the stronger they would become. He arched his back and let out another howl, his teeth bared. Though the light was dim, she could see his fangs already forming.

He had never felt anything like this before in his life. Nothing had ever hurt this much before. His stomach felt like it was on fire and his teeth hurt more and more with each passing second. Another seizure of pain rocked his body, forcing him to arch his back to try and escape it. He felt a strange power flowing through his body following this, though it was replaced in a moment by another burst of pain. Nickolas's vision was narrowing, growing to a point in front of him that was getting smaller by the second. He forced himself onto his knees and felt the bile in the back of his throat as he retched onto the ground. He retched three more times before finally falling down onto his back once more. He looked up into the sky and saw the moon and then....

...nothing.
